BIRDWATCHING
The Serra de Tramuntana is considered one of the best places in the Balearic Islands for Birdwatching, making Formentor a perfect area to observe all kinds of birds. The sea, its mountains, wetlands and marshes form a varied habitat ideal for birds such as the peregrine falcon, the black vulture, the griffon vulture, the chaffinch, the common stork or the Balearic shearwater. Pollença is also strategically located in the center of the main migratory routes of Western Europe, making Formentor one of the best places in the islands to host an excellent ornithological fauna.
BALEARIC SHEARWATER
This small bird with brown tones and a white breast, only inhabits the Balearic Islands and is unfortunately in serious danger of extinction. It is particularly beautiful to watch as it flies at a very low altitude, almost touching the sea.
RED KITE
Majestic and elegant, the Red Kite breeds in Majorca and Menorca. Its plumage is dark brown except at the tips of its wings, where the tone is much lighter, and it has a long, strong tail that allows it to glide gracefully through the island.
EUROPEAN SHAG
A dark, medium-sized bird whose beak is adorned with a small yellow spot at the base. It feeds on fish that it catches while diving in Mediterranean waters, and has a characteristic role in the landscape, because after fishing, they lie on the rocks with their wings open until they dry out.
